Podcast

Below is the podcast that I created over children using their visualization skills in order to better comprehend texts and stories. The specific standard that this podcast addresses is Pre-K Literacy Standard 8, which is a comprehension standard that states that "The child will associate meaning and understanding with reading. I hope that you are able to learn something from this podcast that you can use and work with your child!

  • The activities that correspond to this lesson and were mentioned during the podcast were (1) reading a book with your child and instead of showing them any pictures, have them describe their visualizations or draw them throughout the story and (2) listen to different music or sounds with your child and have them describe what they are seeing as they listen.
  • The website that I found that provided a good overview of the different comprehension skills and strategies that children need to become scholarly readers and writers is: http://www.busyteacherscafe.com/literacy/comprehension_strategies.htmlIt also provides different resources and activities for each different comprehension skill that I think may be really useful!
  • Also, the website that I created the ocean sounds track on was naturesoundsfor.me, and the music was provided by The Steve Miller Band and The Who.

Smartboard
Below is the Smartboard presentation and lesson plan that I created for children in Kindergarten. The activities focus on differentiating and identifying upper and lower case letters, along with matching them together.
